Knightswood Library is architecturally, at first glance, an
example of sixties garage forecourt brutalism. However, there is more
to this place. The area got its name from the Templars who once owned
the land. This society of knightrs became extremely powerful in the
twelfth and thirteenth centuries and were eventually purged and
excommunicated from most countries in Europe. Except Scotland, where,
it is said, they helped Bruce win at Bannockburn. The headquarters of
the Templars was originally in Jerusalem at the Temple Mount. This is
where Solomon's Temple was before it was destroyed. Solomon's Temple is
reflected in the two pillars on the west face of the library. The
book cases in Knightswood library are laid out in the exact format of
the tables in ancient plans of the inner sanctum of Solomon's Temple.
If you visit Knightswood Library you will see the relevance of the ark
and the glowing book and globe. |
