The four writers featured span the nineteenth century - at the most five or six generations ago. A major theme running through their works is the question of identity and how our physical and psychological environments can change who we are. Our attention is directed inwards and the closing of the shutters in order to view the panels is a physical manifestation of this theme. Looking harder at less can be as rewarding as the modern convention of access to everything and seeing less. The theme is what is within. |
